M.J EcoSpin Innovations (MJESI) was founded in 2024 by a young dedicated Pakistani girl who started her journey from a small village (Chak No.79C/TDA) having not more than 40 houses, when she born. The girl became the trendsetter of her village and community. Her name is Engr. Maira Shaikh Qureshi. She embarked on her journey with a personal slogan, “Make Yourself the Reason to Smile”.

Inspired by the values and encouragement of her maternal grandparents, Mr. Ghulam Mustafa and Mrs. Jameela Qureshi (Nana Abu and Nani Ama), Maira envisioned MJESI as a testament to their legacy of resilience, compassion, and commitment to uplifting communities. Yet, her path was marked by numerous challenges. Growing up in a small and conservative village, support beyond her family was virtually nonexistent.

Relatives and others in the community often questioned her aspirations, telling her parents that she would bring dishonor to the family. There were even attempts to discourage her from pursuing higher education after completing her intermediate studies. Despite these societal pressures, Maira remained steadfast in her belief in the power of making a difference.

The loss of her beloved Nana Abu during her 5th grade was a profound emotional blow. His passing left her struggling to find her confidence, forcing her into a shell of silence. However, with the unwavering encouragement of her parents and Nani Ama, she gradually emerged stronger, finding purpose in continuing the values they instilled in her. Her resilience led her to a groundbreaking achievement: graduating as the first female Textile Engineer from District Layyah. This milestone earned her the Precious Pearl Award for being a trendsetter of her village and the Excellence Award from the Deputy Commissioner, validating her hard-fought journey.

Key turning points shaped her into the leader she is today. While preparing for her ECAT, her best friends encouraged her to prioritize her own growth, instilling a newfound sense of self-confidence. This mindset carried her through her time at the National Textile University, where a senior invited her to join the organizing team for the “1st International Conference on Promoting Sustainability in Wet Processing”. This experience sparked her involvement in various university societies and set her on a new trajectory.

In 2020, she joined Million Smiles, a youth development platform, where she took her first steps toward overcoming her fear of public speaking by sharing voice clips and eventually building the courage to speak in front of others. Despite these strides, English remained a hurdle, even in her professional life. Then came a pivotal moment in 2023 when she participated in the Movers Workshop, a transformative experience that not only honed her speaking skills but also led her to become a certified speaker and facilitator. Within just six months, Maira became the 1^st Fastest Movers Envoy in the Movers Programme, gaining a supportive network and invaluable skills across the Asia-Pacific region.

The defining moment came with her selection for the OMLAS Fellowship. This platform reshaped her perspective and unlocked her entrepreneurial potential. Her proposal for MJESI was selected, leading to the launch of her dream project and marking the beginning of her journey to create a sustainable impact aimed at revolutionizing textile recycling.

At its core, MJESI draws inspiration from the legacy of Mustafa and Jameela, reflecting the values of resilience, compassion, and togetherness. The organization thrives on building connections, empowering individuals, and creating opportunities for growth. Guided by the vision of “Smile with Every Step”, MJESI aims to inspire communities to move forward with purpose, innovation, and a shared commitment to a sustainable future.
